Founded in 2013, Varthana (derived from Parivartan) is a Bangalore-based, systemically important NBFC focused on making a positive impact in the education sector. The company provides much-needed investment capital to private institutions to improve the quality of education for low-income and emerging middle-class families in society. Recently, the company also began providing student loans for post-secondary education in domestic institutions. Varthana partners with those education entrepreneurs who understand the sense of urgency about improving access to quality education in low-income communities. These entrepreneurs are usually (not always) ex-educators themselves, who have spent time teaching children in the neighborhood and have then slowly expanded to start a school. They are driven by their mission to provide a robust education, often far superior to government alternatives.
